The key technology of solar street light photovoltaic power generation is solar cell technology. Today's solar cells have developed to the second generation, but the most widely used is the first generation - crystalline silicon cells, accounting for 88.73% of the global solar photovoltaic (PV) cell output in 2003. The first generation of solar cells: crystalline silicon solar cells, divided into two types: monocrystalline silicon and polycrystalline silicon. The efficiency of industrialized products of crystalline silicon cells is generally 13-15%. Due to the production process, the production cost of such cells is relatively high, and the sales price is 3-4$/Wp. Second-generation solar cells: thin-film solar cells, mainly including amorphous silicon (a-Si), cadmium telluride (CdTe) and copper indium (gallium) selenide (Cl(O)Se). Its cost is lower than the first generation, and it can greatly increase the panel manufacturing area, but the efficiency is not as good as the first generation, in which the stable efficiency of amorphous silicon is 10%. As the PV market expands, the growth of thin-film photovoltaic cells will accelerate. Looking ahead to the third generation of solar cells, they should have the following characteristics: thin film, high efficiency, abundant raw materials and non-toxicity. Routes expected to achieve the efficiency of third-generation solar cells include: tandem cells, multi-band photovoltaic cells, impact ionization, photon downconversion, hot carrier cells, thermal ionization, thermal photovoltaic cells, etc.
