Penang will be Malaysia\'s first state to use energy
National exco Jagdeep Singh Deo said today that by next year, the cost of efficient lamps for all street lamps will be about 75 yuan.

At Seberang Perai, he added, a total of 14,054 existing lamps will be converted, at an estimated cost of 35 yuan.
Penang has a total of 105,813 street lights, 34,104 on the island, and the rest are on the mainland.
Of these, 31,596 lamps were maintained by two local councils, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd managed 74,217 lamps (TNB).
Jagdeep said that TNB also replaced all street lamps with LED lights in stages and will fund the upgrade.

He also revealed that TNB signed a renewable energy supply agreement with the municipal council of Seberang Perai (MPSP)
Install solar panels on public buildings to generate renewable solar energy.
\"MPSP has identified 31 buildings to install solar panels, and TNB has agreed to install solar panels on three buildings, he said.
MBPP also identified 15 public buildings for TNB to install solar panels, which TNB is considering, he said.
He said that the installation of solar panels on the first three buildings of Seberang Perai will be completed by October.
